From waste to recycling

About Oceanize

Oceanize turns plastic waste into new, valuable resources. At our facility in Nærøysund, Trøndelag, we take plastic that would otherwise be lost and process it into the right quality granules for new plastic products.

Our timeline began as a traditional waste collection point back in 1997. Today we are a pure recycling company. The bulk of the plastic we recycle comes from the aquaculture and fishing industries.

We will contribute to less plastic litter, lower greenhouse gas emissions and more responsible, circular value chains. This requires that we have trust. That is why we work with quality, traceability and documentation and know what the plastic has been, how it has been treated and what it becomes.

Oceanize is part of the Moen Industrier group.

The start-up

Our story begins with the establishment of Containterservice Ottersøy . The company starts with the collection of commercial waste on the Namdal coast and establishes a waste and reception facility at Matmortua in Nærøysund municipality.

A step in the blue direction

We develop and start up specialized services for the Norwegian aquaculture industry. These services include the collection, dismantling and grinding of cages, feed hoses and other scrapped aquaculture equipment at locations along the entire coast from Trøndelag to Finnmark.

Our first recycling line

Norwegian Plastic Recycling ( NOPREC ) is established. Our first recycling line (GR1) is put into operation, and our first aquaculture cage granules are put into use by plastic manufacturers in Europe.

Oceanize

The brand name Oceanize is established with an ambition to connect Norwegian business actors with plastic waste, the waste industry and consumers of recycled plastic together to ensure a more circular cycle for plastics. The term Oceanize is inspired by the English words for ocean and sanitize .

Industrialization

Oceanize becomes part of the maritime industry group Moen Industrier. This marks the start of an industrialization of plastic recycling under our auspices. We are investing in significant upgrades to our facility in Nærøysund, and are facilitating more and more specialized recycling lines and better logistics. We are entering into strategic partnerships that will start the construction of a circular industrial cluster in Nærøysund.

Second recycling line

Our second recycling line is put into operation, and granulate production is becoming an increasingly large part of our overall business. Among other things, we are receiving 6.5 kilometers of plastic pipes from the closed Svea coal mine in Svalbard. The pipes from what is described as one of the most ambitious environmental projects in Norway ever, weigh a whopping 900 tons.

100% recycled farming cage

In collaboration with AKVA Group, Nova Sea and Plasto, we are developing the world's first recycled fish farming cage. The cage is manufactured exclusively from our recycled plastic granules from fish farming cages, and continues to stand as strong and clear evidence of the good quality of recycled plastic raw material.

This year, Containerservice, NOPREC and Oceanize will merge.

Third recycling line

With support from Innovation Norway and the Norwegian Trade and Industry Environmental Fund, we are developing and implementing our third recycling line. The line enables us to recycle fiber plastic such as ropes, nets and trawl bags into high-quality granules.

Oceanize is strengthening its focus on plastic recycling, selling off its waste portfolio and winding down its own waste operations.

100% recycled rope

In collaboration with PolyRopes and Orbit Supply Chain , we are developing the VINND rope, based exclusively on our recycled rope granules. VINND is not only environmentally friendly, but is also durable and flexible to work with. Through long-term testing and improvements, the rope has achieved breaking strength on par with original PowerLine, Danline, PolySteel and PolyStar.

We are building a Circular Industrial Cluster in Nærøysund

How we make plastic useful again and again

Recycling and Recycling

Oceanize is located at Matmortua in Nærøysund municipality, Trøndelag. Here we have invested in and developed a circular industrial cluster that, in addition to us, houses players such as Retura NT and STT Miljø.

Production line 1

The NGR 105 granulation line has a capacity of 480 kilograms of hard plastic (PE) per hour: The plastic raw material is finely ground, washed and dried, before being melted and given properties (additives) according to the customer's needs. Impure material is removed before the plastic is pelletized, cooled and can be used in new plastic products.

We solve problems in collaboration

Oceanize plays a key role in recycling plastic. Together with responsible business, research and government, we make one of the world's most useful materials more sustainable.

Oceanize and social responsibility

For Oceanize, corporate social responsibility is about taking an active role in the transition to a more circular plastic economy. Through recycling plastic from businesses, Oceanize helps reduce waste plastic, extend the lifespan of valuable resources, and reduce the need for new raw materials.

With traceability, quality and collaboration throughout the value chain, we will create measurable environmental impact and strengthen Norwegian green industry. Today, we are making it easier for important marine industries to take responsibility for their own material flows.

Oceanize complies with the Norwegian Transparency Act. We are part of Moen Industrier, and our report is included in the annual reports from the group.
